Recent post from apple mentioned of extension for developers to upgrade their SDK.

On March 26, 2020,
Apple announced that they are giving more time to developers for upgrading SDK of their existing apps. World is fighting back with Covid-19 and apple showed very generous gesture to all of developers with extension.

So what does this updates contains ? details are as follow

1. Apps for iOS (iPhone or iPad) must be built with the iOS 13 SDK or later and use an Xcode storyboard to provide the app’s launch screen.

2. Apps which are meant for iPhones must support all of available iPhones which are or can have iOS 13.

3. Apps aimed for Apple Watch must be built with the watchOS 6 SDK or later.

4. Apps that authenticate or set up user accounts must support Sign in with Apple if required by guideline 4.8 of the App Store Review Guidelines.

5.Apps in the Kids category must be in full compliance with guideline 1.3 and guideline 5.1.4. of the App Store Review Guidelines.

6. Apps using HTML 5 must be in full compliance with guideline 4.7 sections 4, 5, and 6 of the App Store Review Guidelines.

That leaves us with questions like apps will need to be storyboard driven only from now ? what if someone wants to support app for lower versions ? does that affects of MDM even ? Feel free to put comments and carry out discussion.

Thank You!

  1. That’s fantastic news for me. I’ve got couple of apps to be upgraded for iOS SDK so far. Apple did gave me some relief here but I’d love it when Apple will be generous for app review too haha.
